Frame for suspense. You leave out something you don't want to show so that someone or something pops out of nowhere and scares the audience.
Dialogue means nothing. It's all about music and unknown noises that gets the audiences attention.
Characters must break cliche. You have to have different characters that are a bit unusual. Nothing is more suspenseful than an unknown character.
