Use humor to add tension.
Put your characters in ironic situations. The worst thing that could happen or something unexpected are used to build tension.
Dialogue means nothing.
Use facial expressions. Experiment with dialogue. Can be a lie.
Keep the story simple.
Linear and streamlined. Simply story, characters complex.
Character must break cliche.
Unexpected characters. Thorwald respectable killer.
Two things happening at once.
Distracts audience. Thorwald hiding the knife.
Suspense is information.
Dog returns to garden
Surprise and twist.
The son is the mom. Killer looks innocent.
Warning: may cause macguffin.
Drives the story. Everyone wants it.
Example: dialogue means nothing. In the rear window, the screen has no dialogue but instead actions. This adds suspense.
